# Training Fixes Applied

## Issues Found and Fixed

### 1. **PowerShell Hang - tqdm Progress Bars**
   - **Problem**: `tqdm` progress bars cause PowerShell RemoteException hangs on Windows
   - **Fix**: Disabled tqdm on Windows, use simple print statements instead
   - **Files**: `training/trainer.py`, `evaluation/benchmarks.py`

### 2. **Empty DataLoader Creation**
   - **Problem**: Empty datasets can create DataLoaders with 0 samples, causing crashes
   - **Fix**: Added validation checks and handle empty datasets gracefully
   - **Files**: `utils/data_loader.py`, `training/train_with_eval_fixed2.py`

### 3. **CUDA Memory Access Errors**
   - **Problem**: Fatigue computation had illegal memory access in memory buffer
   - **Fix**: Improved memory buffer handling and device synchronization
   - **Files**: `core/formula.py`

### 4. **Windows Compatibility**
   - **Problem**: `pin_memory=True` can cause issues on Windows
   - **Fix**: Disabled pin_memory for Windows
   - **Files**: `utils/data_loader.py`

### 5. **Output Buffering**
   - **Problem**: Output doesn't appear immediately on Windows
   - **Fix**: Added flush=True and stdout reconfiguration
   - **Files**: Multiple training scripts

## Current Status

Training should now work properly:
- ✅ GPU usage confirmed (80% utilization)
- ✅ No PowerShell hangs from tqdm
- ✅ Empty dataset handling
- ✅ Better error messages and debugging

## Training Script

Use the fixed version:
```bash
python training/train_with_eval_fixed2.py \
    --train_data ./data/sample_train.txt \
    --val_data ./data/sample_valid.txt \
    --test_data ./data/sample_test.txt \
    --test_names sample_test \
    --epochs 5 \
    --batch_size 4 \
    --learning_rate 1e-3 \
    --eval_interval 2 \
    --output_dir ./checkpoints/benchmark_run \
    --save_best
```

## Monitoring

Check progress:
```bash
python scripts/check_training.py ./checkpoints/benchmark_run
python scripts/view_results.py
```

Training is now running properly on GPU!
