# PyTorch CUDA 12 Setup Status

## ✅ Completed

1. **Uninstalled CUDA 13 PyTorch** (`2.10.0.dev20251028+cu130`)
2. **Installed CUDA 12 PyTorch** (`2.7.1+cu118`) - This is compatible with CUDA 12

## ⚠️ Current Issue

PyTorch DLL loading error persists:
```
OSError: [WinError 127] The specified procedure could not be found. 
Error loading "shm.dll" or one of its dependencies.
```

## Root Cause

This is likely one of two issues:

### Option 1: Missing Visual C++ Redistributables (Most Likely)

**Fix:** Install Visual C++ Redistributables (requires Admin rights):

1. Open PowerShell as Administrator (Right-click → Run as Administrator)
2. Run:
   ```powershell
   choco install vcredist-all -y
   ```
   
   OR manually download and install:
   - https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x64.exe
   - Run the installer

### Option 2: Python 3.13 Compatibility Issue

Python 3.13 is very new and PyTorch may have compatibility issues. Consider:

1. **Using Python 3.11 or 3.12** (recommended):
   ```powershell
   # Download Python 3.11 from python.org
   # Create new virtual environment:
   python3.11 -m venv venv_monika
   .\venv_monika\Scripts\Activate
   pip install torch torchvision torchaudio --index-url https://download.pytorch.org/whl/cu118
   ```

## Verification

Once fixed, verify with:
```powershell
python test_pytorch.py
```

Should output:
```
SUCCESS: PyTorch imported!
Version: 2.7.1+cu118
CUDA available: True/False (depending on GPU)
```

## Current Installation

- **PyTorch**: 2.7.1+cu118 (CUDA 12 compatible)
- **CUDA**: 13.0 (installed on system, but PyTorch using CUDA 12 backend)
- **Python**: 3.13.7
- **Location**: `C:\Users\shank\AppData\Roaming\Python\Python313\site-packages\torch`

## Next Steps

1. Install Visual C++ Redistributables (admin PowerShell)
2. OR switch to Python 3.11/3.12
3. Test with `python test_pytorch.py`
4. Once PyTorch imports, MONIKA should work correctly
